Dry skin may be caused by environmental conditions drying it out, lack of sebaceous gland activity, it could be hereditary or the water-holding capacity of the skin has been disrupted. Dry skin generally refers to skin lacking in oil.
It can appear:
- Rough, dry or flaky
- Dull, tight or pale in color
- Thin epidermis
- Lack of elasticity which can result in fine lines and
wrinkles.
To treat dry skin:
- Use a gentle milky or cream cleanser
- Avoid hot showers- hot water strips oils from the skin faster than warm water
- Use a vitamin based moisturizer Morning and Night
- Drink lots of water
- Exfoliate once a week
- Use a hydrating mask once a week
- Eat Omega 3 foods- essential fatty acids can help to strengthen the skins natural oil retaining barrier preventing moisture loss.
